From Surplus to Sustenance
A Community Drive
Berrad El Hay’s Community Fridge program addresses Lebanon’s escalating food insecurity, exacerbated by economic collapse, political instability, and the 2024 war.
Over 910,000 individuals, including children and the elderly, are struggling to meet their basic needs, with the total rising to over 2 million due to the ongoing crisis.
In response to these compounded challenges, Berrad El Hay developed a simple but impactful solution:
Redirecting surplus food, leftovers, and unsold or near to expiry products to community fridges.
The community fridges, placed in strategic neighborhood locations, help distribute food to those in need, alleviating hunger while also reducing food waste.
How Our Community Fridges
Help Those in Need
Our community fridges are regularly stocked with freshly prepared meals, surplus food from local events, and generous donations from restaurants, supermarkets, and neighbors. By repurposing surplus food, we not only reduce waste but also ensure that no one in our community goes to bed hungry.
Each meal is carefully packaged and delivered to elderly and vulnerable individuals who need extra support. But our mission extends beyond just providing food, it’s about building connections, fostering solidarity, and reminding everyone in our community that they are never alone in their challenges.
